Understanding the Progression of Math Fact Fluency – 11/13/2023

We don’t want to rush the work with math fact fluency. High quality instruction of basic math facts needs to progress through stages of a continuum with the culmination at a very pivotal point. Research shows that the timed fluency activities of our past are only effective with a small population of our students. How can we support students in learning their math facts in ways that promote conceptual understanding and build to automaticity without the fear that often comes with fluency? During this hands-on session, teachers will experience strategies that can be used to build understanding and move the students towards fluency with the facts. Teachers will look at resources from top math educators and build a toolbox of resources to take back to their classroom.
